On captivity dreams

In 1968, renowned author Philip K. Dick pondered the seemingly bizarre question: Do androids dream of electric sheep? His resulting meditations and musings comprise the classic novel of the same name. Dick’s science-fiction universe tackled ethical questions about what it means to be human. It gave rise to one of the most beloved cult-classic films of all time, Blade Runner.

In April 2011, renowned talk show host Kimberly Madison had a dream that Charlie Murphy held her captive, with full phone access. Her resulting meditations and musings comprise this blog post. Hopefully her anecdote will give rise to a comment thread where you post odd dreams and your best guess at their meanings.

Miss Mobile Deanna Hayes (left) and Miss Tuscaloosa Julie Meeks (right) both stopped by the Bear studios recently to chat with us about their pageantry experiences thus far. The Miss Alabama competition is in June, and both of these ladies are hard at work to ensure they are able to present an accurate picture of their exemplary civic, health-centric, and progressive characters.

We’re going to have a hard time not rooting for our hometown hero, but both ladies stand a great chance in June’s competition. Get to know them below:

Martha’s Marriage Tips returns!

Bless her, Martha took some time to stop by and offer up some more of her highly sought-after marriage tips. We know she’s an expert… she and CW have been hitched for as long as we can remember, their house is always spic and span, and they always seem to have a spring in their steps.

Hopefully one day CW will let Martha alone long enough for her to deliver some real know-how, because we could all use some tips in our relationships. Until then, check out what she tried to tell us below.

Behold: the ‘Toekini’

Were you ever in a situation in which you thought to yourself, “Man, I wish my feet could wear underwear, too!”

Us either. But even despite this, they’ve gone and made this footwear abomination. Leave a comment with some creative uses you can think of for the toe-kini! We’re having a hard time doing anything besides wearing them on our hands and shielding the microphone from potential overly-enthusiastic spittle…

Yale Law Professor and esteemed author Amy Chua discusses parenting with Mad&Shep

Obviously, this isn’t Madison and Shepherd’s first rodeo. They’ve talked with some of the best-loved country musicians making music today — real stars. But while talking to a successful recording artist is one thing, talking to a cum laude alum of Harvard College is quite another. Luckily, Dr. Amy Chua doesn’t put off the stuffy vibe that some academics are guilty of carrying. Kimberly and Scott handle the interview well, and the conversation turns into one of the most provocative segments we’ve had on the show yet.

Why’s that, you might ask? Well, for one thing, Dr. Chua employs some of the most strict parenting strategies we’ve ever heard. It’s hard to argue with their results, but do you agree with how she gets there? There seems to be a controversy surrounding the practices contained within her memoir Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother, in which she attempts to explain her radical rearing style. Take a listen to the interview below to decide for yourself, and leave us a comment with your opinion.

Colt Ford stops by to talk about his take on modern Country music

Colt admits he isn’t George Strait. In his estimation (and ours!) that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Hear Colt’s take on why diversity in Country music is doing great things for the genre in the interview below.
